What are flat cargo, heavy cargo and bubble cargo?

In the international air cargo business, the space of each cargo plane is limited. If the cargo transported is a foam box, it is very light in terms of weight, but it takes up a lot of space. Therefore, it is not possible to charge goods simply according to weight, but also to use the volume of goods. According to international practice, a cubic meter of 167KG has become a standard for the classification of goods.

When the weight of 1 cubic meter of goods is 167KG, we can call this kind of goods flat. When 1 cubic meter of cargo weighs less than 167KG, this kind of cargo is called a bubble, also known as "throw cargo", in the sea is known as light cargo. When the weight of 1 cubic meter of cargo is greater than 165 kg, such a cargo is called heavy cargo.

When calculating the freight cost of international air transportation, according to the actual weight and volume weight of the goods, the maximum value is taken as the final billing weight for calculating the freight cost. The formula for calculating the volume weight is: length * width * height (in CM) ÷6000, and 1CBM is equal to 1.667KG.

Sometimes freight forwarders will quote "1:300" or "1> 300 ", which means that this price can be used when the density of the goods reaches more than 1:300. Cargo density is the cargo weight per unit volume of the goods. The transportation cost per unit of the goods with low density is higher than that of the goods with high density, and the air price of the goods with more foam will be higher.
